The 5 Marketing Strategies That Worked For Me In The Pandemic

I am celebrating my 1st work anniversary today as the Chief Marketing Officer and feeling extremely thankful for this work milestone.

I had different marketing plans when I started off at Peopletrail back in July 2019. However, when this COVID 19 Pandemic hit in February/March 2020, I had to shift gears to rethink our marketing strategy. The key has been to keep our emotions in check while continuing to trust in the digital marketing knowledge we have and learn from others who have been open to sharing in this difficult time. One wrong decision could reflect poorly on the company.

Luckily, the new strategy is working well, and our company has not suffered as badly as many others inside and outside of our industry. Our sustainable, measured, and unemotional approach has seemingly won. We have been able to pull back firmly and are in an excellent position to move into the 4th quarter of 2020.

Here are 5 smart digital marketing tactics I followed to ensure that we don’t go out of business.

  1. Stopped overspending on various digital tools that were not urgent. For example, organic social media posting. Rather than posting 5 days a week, we came down to 1 day a week.
  2. Focused 400% more on content marketing. Building a content database to engage with the target audience and providing free value. We wrote articles, blogs, white papers, educational material, etc. and published on the website.
  3. Focused on SEO and on-page optimization, so when the organic traffic resumes, Google algorithm finds our website in better shape to rank it even higher.
  4. Started doing remarketing ads and focused less on new audiences.
  5. Only advertised in states which had business activity going on.
